Close up on a dashboard of a classic carWith the winter season, you may be storing your precious classic car in your garage, saving it for the springtime drive. But are you storing it properly the right way and with the right tools? Classic cars need maintenance to keep them in tip-top shape, considering their age.

Take a look below and see how to store a classic car properly for its winter hibernation.

Take care of it first

Before anything else, you need to perform maintenance procedures. You can change the oil, replace the filters, and wash the vehicle. You can apply grease to fittings, hood latch, and door hinges.

You can also apply silicone spray on the weather stripping on windows, doors, and the trunk to prevent stripping bonding during storage.

Fill the tank

Once you have maintained your classic car, you can prepare it for storage by first filling its tank to the full. A full tank prevents rust as it keeps moisture out of the tank. You can also add fuel stabilizers to avoid fuel hardening. Remove the spark plugs and lubricate the cylinders as well.

Install a lift

To protect the tires during storage, you can have a Bendpak 4 post lift installation like those offered by firms such as JMC Equipment. The lift can easily support your classic car and keep the tires from flat spotting. Fill the tires up to 25 psi or more.

Remove the battery

Finally, you simply have to take care of the battery, fluids, and openings of your classic car. For the battery, either remove it or use a maintainer to keep it fully charged. For the fluids, you can make sure they are all full.

For the openings such as the exhaust, heater, and air filter box, you can block them off to keep critters from making a home out of them.

Have you done the practices above when you stored your classic car? You still have time to rectify mistakes and store your car properly for the winter.
